On the occasion of the German Society for Sleep Research and Sleep Medicine (DGSM) National Sleep Day on June 21, 2024, BR-Abendschau – Der Süden highlighted the importance of healthy sleep and provided insights into the current activities of the TUM4Health subproject "Healthy Sleep".
Since April 2024, Johanna Schmickler, along with an interdisciplinary team of students from the Technical University of Munich, has been developing an online course to promote sleep health among students. This course aims to enhance students' sleep-related health literacy and help them optimize their sleep behavior through knowledge dissemination, interactive formats, and an accompanying workbook.
The course content and methodology are being crafted through student collaboration and participation. Initially, qualitative interviews were conducted to understand students' sleep behaviors and preferences for content and communication methods. These findings were further refined in a workshop with students from the B.Sc. Health Science program and now serve as a vital foundation for the ongoing development process. A team of ten students contributes their unique interests, prior knowledge, and skills, ensuring a target group-specific and needs-based design and implementation of the online course. The first version of the course is set to be piloted in the upcoming winter semester, with a revised version available to all TUM students in the summer semester of 2025.
